Dreamscape
Rising Fog
Rising Fog. Festering
Grey blue particles.
Dark, Dank, Malingering.
Rising from the primordial swamp of yesterday’s nightmare.
Taking form, taking shape, transparent.
Forming, Almost!
Then gone, gone again.
What is it?
It comes again
It beats-‐
Marching
Struggling for that solid state.
Then gone, gone, gone again
Slip slipstream, silver
That space between waking and sleep
Of fretting and fitting, fighting and fatigue
Not yet, Not now. There is more.
Jungian Dreams
Falling, Falling dread
Into the realm of unrequited sleep
Sudden Thud. Reflex Jolting, Spontaneous
Cold shudder.
What trickery is this?
That Quakes and Shakes the seismic pulse
Rumbling, remunerating, reverberating
Awake the sentient mind
Skin lines shifting undefined
But no, not now
It is not sleep
It is the void, Ambiguous Alarm
Gravity feeding,
A maelstrom spiral, dark descending
Into the ether; miasmic fever
Dysphonic, dissonance, dislocates
Shipwrecked
No bearing, no compass, no light
The resonance of daytime reason
Twists upon the midnight hour
Penetrating, percolating, perpetrating
Allusive form, it comes again
Rising like a lift well from some shadow deep,
It enters too familiar
A childhood memory entombed
It beats, my pulse, Remember!
Clutching nails and sweaty palms
Droplets leech down the sunken spine
Too weary now. Anaesthetised tongue
Resist, Resist the shadow monster calling
It is not sleep that beckons
Beware! Beware! There is more
Dark Mission
Dream sleeping. Slow breathing
Now on a Mission
Urgent! Time precision
My task is set
Temple throbs with indecision
An ancient odyssey beset
The thunder god commands
A maze, a trick a labyrinth
I hesitate, I Contemplate
As time grows louder in my ear
And creeps upon the peaceful state
Like dark shadows porous
Penetrate
The ground shakes
tectonic force shut tight my eyes lids vaulted
Unwilling Slave. A pawn
Release me from this empty quest
O voice return, my mouth mouthing words. Announicate. Announicate
O voice return and Wake me
Wake me from this foreign place
City of the Citadel Lost
Here come the planes
Hear them distant, rumbling away
Closer closer,
Closer closer,
Here come the planes,
Children listen, In the dark
Closer closer,
Closer closer,
All is darkness, all is noise
Lightning flashes, trembling poise
Into dusk our fathers home
Ancient Stories carved in stone
Blown to pieces, poison zone
Where is my fair city of legends ever told.
Here come the planes
Children listen, In the dark
Closer closer,
Closer closer.
Here come the planes,
Children listen , In the Dark
Closer closer ,
Closer closer.
Cries of warning. Scattered fears
Gather children shelter near,
Stumbling to the mosque we pray,
Shattered homes we make our way,
Pain and fear our everyday.
Where is my fair city of legends ever told.
Where are the walls ah Empty spaces
The men are gone ah Empty places
The vacant stare, women wailing.
Here come the planes
Where is my son, shackled away
Mercy, Mercy
Mercy, Mercy.
The Hawkesbury
The Hawkesbury flows out to the sea
The voices carry tales of yester-year
Dancing around the Maypole
Harvest the land of plenty.
With hat and scythe they cut the rye,
From dawn to sunset golden.
Row by Row, Row by Row .
Each grain tomorrows keeping.
With Winter rains and summers scorching heat,
They weave a pattern across the wide land,
Carving with picks on the sandstone,
In the land of sunshine.
Down the rivers, over the mountains,
Across the deserts I tread,
Marking this land with my footprints.
With songs from home, they roam and watch the sky
They sing a new land of purple red sunset,
Shaping the land with their ploughs.
Into the land afar.
By stars at night, and fire light,
They paddle in boats to explore.
Row they Row , Row they Row
Into the land of Dreaming.
The Hawkesbury flows out to the sea
The voices carry tales of yester-year
Dancing around the Maypole
Harvest the land of plenty.
Down the rivers, over the mountains,
Across the deserts I tread,
Marking this land with my footprints.
A Child's Odyssey
Written by Alison Marshall, Insert Date for Kate Reid. MA(Composition) candidate SCM 2015.
Performed: Composition Performance Workshop Wed 21 st October 2015
Singer: Clare Richards and pianist: Paulina Smirnov.
Why do children want to Fly
With handmade wings
On roof top high
A runway take-off to the skies
To shed this earth bound gravity
And join the flying creatures. Ever-Free
Migrating flocks over land and sea
Look down upon this human need
With all its envy and all the greed
To take up life among the tress
And soar above monotony
